What is Gujarat State Pollution Control Board?

Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) was established on october 15, 1974 under the provisions of Water Act, 1974. It has been established with the objective of better prevention and control of pollution through improved management of tools. 

Moreover, it emphasizes on performance of environmental infrastructures to prevent and control the environmental pollution under programmes of Government of Gujarat “Swarnim Gujarat.” However, its primary function is to act as a regulatory body which is engaged in activities such as organization of several awareness programmes from time to time on local issues like municipal solid wastes, bio-medical wastes, plastic issues, rather than air, water, or land pollution created from different industrial sectors.

  • Encouraging the establishment of Common Effluent Treatment plants and Treatment Disposal facilities, etc by appropriately coordinating with other agencies.
  • Maintaining close coordination and rapport with educational institutions, NGOs, Government organizations, etc to create awareness and to promote sustainable development. 


How to Get Registration in GPCB?

The GPCB registration process is different for different categories of Industries (Red, Orange, and Green). Below-mentioned are the GPCB registration process,

2. GPCB Registration Process For Green or Orange Category Business
  • If your site is under an industrial area, first, the documents will be submitted online. While, if your site is under redevelopment area, SDM letter or industry inspector letter will be required to move to the next step.
  • GPCB CTE application will be generated.
  • Once the CTE application is generated, the hard copy application of the signed CTE will be submitted to the GPCB.
  • If Pollution Control Device is required, the Pollution Control Equipment will be installed.
  • Thereafter, GPCB will monitor the installed lab equipment.
  • CTE 
  • GPCB CTE or CTO application will be generated. Additionally, if installation of Pollution Control Equipment is not required, prior two steps need not be required to follow.
  • Then, a GPCB application will be generated.
  • Submit the signed hard copy of CTE or CTO application to GPCB.
  • At last, a CTO or CTE certificate will be issued.
2. GPCB Registration Process For Green or Orange Category Business
  • The documents will be submitted online.
  • Thereafter, GPCB undertaking will be generated.
  • Once the undertaking is generated, the GPCB certificate will be generated. 
  • Lastly, submit the signed hard copy to the GPCB.

NOTE- If your industry neither falls under industrial area, nor under redevelopment area, the GPCB consent will be refused.

3. GPCB Undertaking Process For White Category Industries

Industries under white category are not required to procure Consent to Establish or Consent to Operate. On the contrary, they must submit an undertaking online to GPCB within 30 days along with sending a signed replica of the undertaking.
