What is Tamil Nadu State Pollution Control Board?

Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) was earlier known as Tamil Nadu Prevention and Control of Water Pollution Board - which was established in February 27, 1982 under the pursuance of Water Act, 1974. However, it was renamed in 1983 as along with Water Act, 1974, it also have to function under the pursuance of the Air Act, 1981, and the Environmental Act, 1986.

Industrial Categorization Under TNPCB

Like Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), TNPCB has classified industries depending on the pollution index. The pollution index of a particular industry signifies whether an industry will fall under the red, orange, green, and white category.

Below-mention are the industrial classification as per pollution index -

Red category - Pollution score index 60 and above
Orange category - Pollution score index 41 to 59
Green category - Pollution score index 21 to 40
White category - Pollution score index incl. And upto 20

 

How to Obtain CTE/ CTO Under TNPCB?

An online application will be filed.

Receiving officer will scrutinize the application depending on the complete/ in-complete submission of the application.

An inspection will be conducted by a Regional Officer (RO).

A Consent will either be issued by RO or your application will move forward to Unit Head.

The application moved forward will be scrutinized by Unit Head or Consent will be issued, or an application will move forward to Member Secretary.

The Member Secretary will issue the consent.
