For X-ray based equipment such as X-ray inspection systems, food scanners, X-ray diffractometers and handheld or cabinet XRF devices and PCB analysers, foreign-make suppliers must obtain it through eLORA before sale. Source Type Approval applies to equipment with radioactive sources made in India.

What is Type Approval?

Type approval is AERB’s approval of the design or model of equipment containing radiation sources or X-ray generators, evaluated against the AERB Safety Code and standards. It is granted to the model, after which units of that model can be supplied and licensed. For diagnostic X-ray equipment, models must be AERB type-approved before users can buy them, and X-ray tube and tube-insert models must be registered through eLORA.

Documents include technical documentation of the model, specifications, shielding and safety interlocks, radiation leakage and performance data, test reports, samples or prototype under NOC, evaluation tables for self-shielded equipment and declarations including lifetime servicing for diagnostic X-ray equipment. Fees and validity were not retrieved.

Register as a supplier on eLORA, import a prototype under NOC if required, submit the application and respond to AERB's evaluation. Once approved, the model appears in eLORA so users can buy it.
