AERB Approval

NOC

AERB issues No Objection Certificates (NOCs) in the equipment approval chain. For X-ray based equipment, an NOC for import of a prototype for type approval is needed before a recognised supplier imports a model for evaluation, and the Equipment Type Approval, Type Registration or NOC route on eLORA covers consumer products and scanning facilities. Without a valid type approval or NOC, the end user cannot select the equipment in eLORA.

We prepare supplier registration, technical details and filing.

Service Overview

What is NOC?

An AERB NOC is a regulatory clearance under the Atomic Energy (Radiation Protection) Rules, 2004 confirming that an import or equipment model may proceed in the licensing process, for example import of a prototype X-ray machine for type-approval testing, or NOC for self-shielded X-ray based equipment used for baggage scanning, X-ray inspection, XRF or XRD. It is issued only if the equipment satisfies the AERB safety code and standards in force.

Documents include supplier registration on eLORA, technical details and specifications, radiation safety data and test reports, technical reference tables and RSO details where a test facility exists. Fees and timelines were not retrieved from AERB pages.

NOC

Who Needs This Service

Manufacturers and suppliers of X-ray equipment, baggage and food scanners, X-ray inspection systems, XRF and XRD devices and PCB analysers, and their importers, need NOCs.

Startups building scanning products should plan NOC.

Importers should obtain NOC before import.

Users should check supplier approvals.

Key Benefits

  • Clearance for import and approval steps
  • eLORA filing
  • Technical documents
  • Smooth type approval path
  • Reduced import delays

Next Steps & Related Services

After NOC, proceed to type approval. Related services: Type Approval, Diagnostic X-ray licence and RSO.

Common Mistakes

  • Importing without NOC.
  • Weak data.
  • No RSO for test facility.
  • Wrong category.
  • Late filing.

Timeline, Costs & Practical Tips

Timelines unknown.

Practical tip: confirm requirements on eLORA.

Additional Information

AERB regulates radiation equipment to protect safety.

Practical Scenarios

Scenario 1:

A supplier imports a prototype.

Scenario 2:

A scanner maker applies.

Scenario 3:

An XRF vendor checks requirements.

Process & Planning

To use the NOC and type approval chain, suppliers first register on eLORA and, where they have a test facility, obtain RSO approval. They apply for an NOC to import a prototype if needed, import and test it, and then apply for Equipment Type Approval, Type Registration or NOC with technical data, shielding and radiation safety information. Users later choose approved models in eLORA. Planning checklist: keep technical files organised, plan prototype testing time, confirm the safety code applicable to your equipment category and track any updates to the NOC process.
