What is Diagnostic X Ray Equipment?
AERB regulation of diagnostic X-ray equipment is the legal control of design, manufacture, supply, installation, operation and decommissioning of medical X-ray equipment to protect patients, staff and the public from radiation. AERB Safety Code (AERB/SC/Med-2) sets the requirements. The regulatory chain is: manufacturers need a licence for commercial production, suppliers and service agencies need authorisation, equipment models need type approval, and users need a licence for operation with an RSO.
Only AERB type-approved or registered models can be selected in eLORA. For pre-owned imports the maximum equipment age is ten years when the supplier is authorised by the OEM and seven years for a service agency. Facilities must have radiation safety devices and minimum qualified personnel. A separate RSO approval applies for CT and interventional radiology. One secondary source says no licence or processing fee is currently charged.
