What is RSO?
The RSO is the designated radiation safety professional who ensures the facility meets the AERB Safety Code and the Atomic Energy (Radiation Protection) Rules, 2004: monitoring exposures, QA, maintaining records and liaising with AERB through eLORA. The minimum qualification and training are prescribed by AERB. For diagnostic radiology, safety documents list, for example, an X-ray technologist from a recognised institution with three years’ experience as one acceptable qualification.
Documents include the RP registration form, certificate of the course ‘Radiation Safety and Quality Assurance in Diagnostic Radiology’, educational and experience certificates, ID proof, photograph, TLD number and employer’s nomination in eLORA. Approval is time-bound; the renomination button is deactivated one month before expiry for currently approved RSOs per AERB guidelines.
