What is Fssai Basic Registration?
FSSAI Basic Registration is a certificate issued by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India to petty food business operators, such as small retailers, hawkers, vendors and small manufacturers. It authorises them to carry on food business legally and gives a 14-digit registration number that must be displayed on premises and printed on packaging. It is different from a State or Central licence, which are for larger businesses and use Form B.
A petty food business is generally one with turnover up to Rs 12 lakh a year, and one source also mentions petty manufacturing capacity up to 100 kg or litres a day. The business must operate in one state or union territory, and up to 12 vending machines in one state qualify.
