What is Model Approval?
Model approval, or pattern approval, is the central approval of the design of a weighing or measuring instrument, such as weighing scales, fuel dispensers and taximeters, confirming that it conforms to the Act and Rules and is capable of being verified. Only approved models can then be manufactured, imported, verified and stamped. It is separate from state-level manufacturer, dealer, repairer and importer licences and registrations.
Documents include the application, model technical drawing and specifications, description of the instrument and metrological features, sample(s) for testing, test reports, entity documents and for importers authorisation and IEC. Sources quote different fees for digital and analog equipment. Importer registration, where applicable, is effective for five years per one source.
