What is CDSCO In Vitro Diagnostics Registration?
IVD medical devices are reagents, kits, calibrators and instruments used to examine specimens, such as blood, for diagnosis. They are classified A, B, C and D by risk, for example HIV, HBsAg and HCV kits fall in the higher classes. Certain IVDs need performance evaluation by designated labs such as NIB, NIV or AIIMS before licences are granted.
Documents include application forms, Device Master File, ISO 13485 certificate, stability and analytical performance data, labelling and IFU, performance evaluation report from a CDSCO-listed laboratory for notified kits, entity documents, premises proof and QMS documents, and for imports an Indian authorised agent with MD-42 and the manufacturer’s regulatory approvals. IVD classification lists were updated in 2021, 2023 and 2026.
