DoT Certification

Demo License

A WPC Demo Licence permits demonstrating wireless equipment, for example at exhibitions, trade shows or customer demonstrations, for a limited period. DoT’s orders list Demo categories such as ‘Demo indoor (non-radiating or very low power radiating)’ alongside experimental and technology-trial categories. It is applied for on the Saral Sanchar portal.

We prepare the application with event, equipment and frequency details and follow up.

Service Overview

What is Demo License?

A demonstration licence is a short-term WPC permission to operate wireless equipment for demonstration purposes without a regular spectrum licence, subject to conditions on location, frequency, power and duration. It is separate from Experimental licences for research and trials and from commercial network licences.

Documents include details of the demonstrating entity, event or venue and dates, equipment make and model, frequency and power, entity documents, PAN, authorisation letter, technical datasheets, ETA or import undertaking details and the prescribed fee. Validity and fee were not retrieved from the sources, and a DoT notice in 2026 moved some Telegraph Act licences to the new framework, so check whether Demo licences follow.

Demo License

Who Needs This Service

Wireless equipment vendors, importers and telecom or IoT companies demonstrating products at exhibitions or to customers need Demo licences.

Companies showing products at trade fairs should apply early.

Equipment in licence-exempt bands may not need it.

Outdoor demos need careful planning.

Key Benefits

  • Legal demonstration of wireless products
  • Event and equipment details prepared
  • Saral Sanchar filing
  • Frequency and power guidance
  • Event readiness

Next Steps & Related Services

After the licence, demonstrate within conditions. Related services: Experimental licence, ETA, VHF and UHF licences.

Common Mistakes

  • Demonstrating without licence.
  • Exceeding power or site limits.
  • Late application before an event.
  • Missing equipment approvals.
  • Ignoring surrender after the event.

Timeline, Costs & Practical Tips

Apply well before the event.

Practical tip: share a clear event and equipment plan.

Additional Information

WPC controls demonstrations to prevent interference.

Practical Scenarios

Scenario 1:

A vendor demos at an expo.

Scenario 2:

A startup demos to a client.

Scenario 3:

A telecom company demos a new radio.

Process & Planning

A demo licence plan starts from the event calendar. List the event, venue, dates, equipment, frequency and power, and decide whether the equipment is indoor and non-radiating or very low power radiating. Register on Saral Sanchar, select the Demo module, upload the datasheets, ETA or import undertaking details and authorisation letter, and pay the fee. WPC grants the licence with conditions on site, dates and power. Planning checklist: apply well before the event, keep a copy of the licence at the venue, operate only within the permitted limits, and surrender or let the licence lapse after the demonstration as instructed.

Practical Guidance

A Demo licence is a short-term permission, and most of the work lies in timing and precision. Trade shows and customer demonstrations have fixed dates, so apply well in advance, because WPC processing and any queries can take time. Describe the event, venue, dates, equipment, frequency band, power and the purpose of the demonstration. Attach datasheets and ETA or import undertaking details, and include the authorisation letter of the person signing.

Check first whether a licence is needed at all. If your demonstration equipment operates in a licence-exempt band within the prescribed power limits and has ETA, you may not need a Demo licence. If it uses restricted frequencies or higher power, apply under the Demo module on Saral Sanchar. DoT's orders list categories such as Demo indoor for non-radiating or very low-power radiating equipment, and categories can differ for outdoor or higher-power use.

During the event, operate only within the licence conditions, carry a copy of the licence and be ready to show it to officials. After the event, close out the licence as instructed. Because the sources do not give fees or validity and a 2026 DoT notice moved some Telegraph Act licences to a new framework, confirm current details on the portal.
