DoT Certification

UHF

UHF licensing at WPC covers frequency assignments in the UHF band, below 806 MHz in the same HF, VHF, UHF fixed or land mobile module and above 806 MHz in a separate module, plus a short-range UHF handheld radio licence category. The licence is applied for on Saral Sanchar and frequency is assigned by WPC. Some low-power UHF devices such as 865 to 867 MHz RFID are licence-exempt and need only ETA.

We determine the module, prepare the application and documents and follow through.

Service Overview

What is UHF?

A UHF radio licence from WPC authorises operation of two-way or trunked radio equipment in the ultra-high-frequency band (300 MHz to 3 GHz), for example business walkie-talkies, captive trunking and handheld radios. WPC also lists Short Range UHF handheld radio licences. Equipment must be type-approved, and the licensee pays licence or royalty fees as set by DoT.

Documents include entity documents, PAN, ID of the authorised person, site and area details, equipment technical details with ETA, possession licence or authorisation for the sets, fee payment through Bharatkosh with a GAR-7 receipt and SACFA siting clearance for towers where needed.

UHF

Who Needs This Service

Businesses and institutions using UHF radio networks, such as security, warehouses, construction, hospitality, event management, utilities and transport, need UHF licences.

Short-range handheld users should check the specific category.

Licence-exempt RFID users need only ETA.

Possession authorisation applies to radio sets.

Key Benefits

  • Correct UHF module identified

Process & Planning

To plan a UHF network, decide whether you need a below-806 MHz or above-806 MHz module, or the short-range handheld category, and whether a licence-exempt band such as 865 to 867 MHz RFID could serve your purpose with ETA alone. Prepare entity documents, equipment details and ETA, site and area information, and pay fees through Bharatkosh with the GAR-7 receipt. WPC processes the request and assigns frequency, with SACFA clearance if towers are used. Planning checklist: confirm possession authorisation for the radios, document the coverage area, track the licence term and renewal and review the setup when you add sites.

Practical Guidance

UHF networks are widely used because they perform well in buildings and urban environments, which is why security teams, hotels, construction sites and event companies favour them. The licensing route depends on the band and the type of use. Below 806 MHz, UHF belongs to the same Fixed or Land Mobile module as HF and VHF; above 806 MHz there is a separate module; and short-range handheld radios have their own category. Some UHF bands, such as 865 to 867 MHz for RFID, are licence-exempt and need only ETA for the devices.

To prepare, determine the number of sets, area and sites, and the frequency band you plan to use. Choose equipment that has ETA or other required approvals. Compile entity documents, the technical details of radios and any towers, and pay fees through Bharatkosh. WPC assigns frequencies to avoid interference and may require SACFA clearance for tower sites.

After licensing, follow conditions on power, location and operation, and track renewals. If your radios are obtained from a dealer, ask for evidence that the dealer holds the required authorisation. Since possession rules are changing under the 2026 framework, confirm the current requirement for holding the equipment.
