What is Name Approval/RUN filing?
Name approval is the process by which the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, through the Central Registration Centre, checks that a proposed company name is unique and follows the naming rules before a company is incorporated or renamed. The name must be unique, not identical or confusingly similar to an existing company, LLP or registered trademark, and must end with the correct suffix such as ‘Private Limited’, ‘Limited’, ‘OPC Private Limited’ or ‘LLP’.
The name must not be offensive or suggest government patronage, and words such as Bank, Insurance, Reserve, Stock Exchange, National, Central or Government need prior approval of the relevant authority. Abbreviations are generally not allowed unless they are well established.
