Change in Company Pan/Tan

A company’s PAN and TAN records can be corrected or updated when its name, address or other details change. The PAN correction is requested by filing the ‘Request for New PAN Card or/and Changes or Correction in PAN Data’ application with one of the two authorised providers, Protean eGov Technologies (formerly NSDL) or UTIITSL, either online or offline. Companies usually need it after a name change or a change of registered office.

Service Overview

What is Change in Company Pan/Tan?

PAN (Permanent Account Number) is the unique 10-character identifier issued by the Income Tax Department to taxpayers, including companies, firms and trusts. TAN (Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number) is the identifier for persons responsible for deducting or collecting tax at source and is quoted on challans and TDS returns. PAN cannot replace TAN where TAN is required.

A change or correction request updates the entity’s demographic details in the Income Tax database and, if requested, issues a reprinted PAN card. Details that commonly change include the entity name, registered address, contact details and the authorised signatory. Mismatches between PAN, GST, bank and MCA records can cause problems in tax filing, TDS credit, refunds and bank KYC.

Who Needs This Service

Companies that have changed their name, shifted their registered office, changed authorised signatories or found errors in their PAN or TAN details need this service. It is also relevant after a merger, conversion or restructuring that changes the entity's legal details.

Businesses that file TDS returns regularly should take special care. If the TAN details do not match the PAN or the company name, TDS credit may not be matched correctly in the deductee's Form 26AS, and notices can follow. Correcting mismatches early saves rework later.

It is useful as well for companies applying for bank loans, tenders or licences that require consistent records across PAN, GST and MCA. If the PAN data is out of date, the verification systems may reject your application.

Companies should also review their records after any significant change and make updates across all registrations together.

Key Benefits

  • Single point of support for aligning PAN and TAN records with MCA and GST
  • Correct application category and supporting documents
  • Reduced risk of TDS credit mismatches and notices
  • Cleaner KYC with banks and regulators
  • Guidance on the changing form numbers (Form 49A vs Form 93)

Next Steps & Related Services

After correction, update GST, bank and other records, and check Form 26AS.

Related services: Company Name Change, ROC / Address Change, PAN Registration, TDS Return and GST Registration.

Common Mistakes

  • Changing the name or address at MCA but not updating PAN and TAN.
  • Ticking more fields than needed in the correction form.
  • Using the wrong category of the form for a non-individual entity.
  • Submitting documents that do not match the claimed change.
  • Ignoring TAN mismatches that affect TDS credits.

Timeline, Costs & Practical Tips

Processing time quoted by one source is about 15 days after documents reach the provider. The fee is set on the provider's portal.

Practical tip: apply for the PAN update soon after the MCA change is approved, and check that the same details appear on your GST registration and bank KYC.

Additional Information

The Income Tax Act, 1961 and the Income Tax Rules provide for PAN as the identifier for taxpayers and TAN for persons deducting or collecting tax at source. The systems that match TDS credits, refunds and returns depend on consistent PAN and TAN details. When a company's name or address changes at MCA, the tax database must be updated too, otherwise notices, refund failures and TDS mismatches can result. This is why correction is not a cosmetic step but part of keeping tax compliance reliable.
