Sikkim State Pollution Control Board was established as an autonomous body by the Government of India under the notification Sub-section (1) of Section 4 of Water Act, 1974 in 2008. SPCB- Sikkim has been established as an advisor and regulatory body with the motive to control, prevent, and abatement of pollution.
Being an advisory body, SPCB- Sikkim advises the state government to take appropriate measures to prevent, control, and abatement of pollution. While being a regulatory body, its responsibility is to ensure the implementation of established Acts and regulations under environmental Acts.
